THE OURSTORY FOUNDATION
The OurStory Foundation ((formerly PACA-Promoting African Art and Culture) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promotion and preservation of African and African American art and culture. Found in 1998 by Bomani Tyehimba and Mark Pastor (deceased), the OurStory Foundation works with community organizations, churches, schools, universities, etc. to present quality African American arts programming including book fairs and book signings, gallery exhibits, visual and performing arts workshops and seminars, and much more. The OurStory Foundation’s signature event is Festival513.
After eleven successful years of producing Festival513, The OurStory Foundation (formerly PACA) has proven it is well equipped to organize events on this scale. Previous events include the Greater Cincinnati Black Book Fair, a Cincinnati tradition that began in February 1990.
The Black Book Fair (renamed the OurStory Book Fair) quickly grew from a one-day event held in a hotel, to three full days at the Cincinnati Convention Center. It was well attended, attracting people throughout Greater Cincinnati and from the tri-state area. Each year, the OurStory Book Fair received extensive media coverage, volunteer support, and corporate sponsorship.
In 2005, The OurStory Expo, an expanded vision of the Book Fair, and built upon its well established foundation, was produced. The OurStory Expo included an Art Exhibit, Spoken Word Expo, Book Fair, Writer’s Conference, and featured a “Blacks in Flight” Exhibit. That three day event was held at the Sharonville Convention Center.
Now in its 18th year, The OurStory Foundation brings the same level of professionalism and enthusiasm to the 11th Annual 2017 Festival513.
Festival513 is free and open to the public.
